George Michael UK Dates In Doubt

George Michael’s UK dates have been scrapped while the singer remains in an Austrian hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

Michael’s management says the singer has canceled all of his remaining 2011 tour dates as he recovers from pneumonia. A statement says the 48-year-old former Wham! frontman “is responding to treatment and slowly improving.”

He is still reportedly undergoing treatment in Vienna’s AKH Hospital, having missed his sold-out show in the Austrian capital Nov. 21 and another in Strasbourg, France, Nov. 23.

Richard Hoermann of Nu Coast, which was promoter for the date at the 11,000-capacity Vienna Stadthalle, told Pollstar he hopes to reschedule for April.

The UK shows at Cardiff Motorpoint Arena were postponed.

The next date for the star, whose tour entourage includes a 41-piece orchestra, would have been at Liverpool Echo Arena Nov. 30, which also sold out.

The 47-date run that kicked off in Prague, Czech Republic, is Michael’s first since he spent a month in jail for driving under the influence of cannabis.

He’d earlier said his 2008 concerts would be his last live shows but on leaving the UK’s Highpoint Prison he told reporters that his time inside had been “quite inspirational.”

“I just want to start again. You’re going to be seeing a lot more from me,” he said.
