Hall-Busting Hat-Tricks

Five acts playing the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, Belgium, have sold so many tickets that the venue has been forced to continually move them to larger rooms.

European Talent Exchange Programme favourite Anna Calvi, Belgian re-unionists El Fish, and Intergalactic Lovers, SBTRKT and Gotye were all booked for 250-capacity shows in the Belgique’s club venue.

But they all shifted so many tickets that their shows were upgraded to the AB Box.

It proved that The Box, which can hold 700, wasn’t large enough to satisfy the demand and so all five shows were moved up again to the Belgique’s 2,000-capacity main hall.

The fastest mover was Australian-Belgian artist Goyte, who had a worldwide hit with “Somebody I Used To Know” as his club show at Ancienne Belgique was announced.

He moved from the club to The Box and on to the main hall within 15 minutes of the onsale. He then added two more main hall shows that also sold out.

The last act to score what the venue describes as “a hall-busting hat-trick” was Irish band The Script in February 2009.
