Walsh Accuser Back In Court
An unemployed man who allegedly gave police two false statements claiming he was sexually assaulted by “X-Factor” judge Louis Walsh returned to court Sept. 7.
Leonard Watters from Co. Meath was arrested in June after allegedly making an unfounded claim that Walsh, who is also manager of Westlife, tried to grope him in a Dublin nightclub bathroom.
Walsh denied the incident, which was said to have happened June 20 in a club called Krystle, after a Westlife concert in the city’s O2 arena.
On June 29 Watters was charged with making a false report to police at Harcourt Terrace Garda station.
Watters, a father of two, was remanded on bail subject to condition he stayed away from Krystle and had no contact of any form with Walsh, members of Westlife or any potential witnesses.
During his second court appearance Michael Cryan from Dublin police told Judge Cormac Dunne that an additional charge has now been added. It relates to a second false report Watters is alleged to have made to police at his home June 28.
Judge Dunne remanded him under the same bail terms as set earlier to appear again at the same court Nov. 2, when he will be expected to enter a plea.
A District Court conviction for making a false report to the police can result in a fine or a sentence not exceeding 12 months.
