Burgas Continues Growth
Spirit Of Burgas wasn’t impacted by the uncertainties of the Bulgarian festival market as the fourth edition pulled 37,000 across three days Aug. 13-15.
The cancellation of the 30,000-capacity Sonisphere scheduled for June 21 and problems with the new Elevation Festival (June 24-25) figured to have a negative effect on sales, but Burgas on the Black Sea coast seems to have been immune.
In fact, the Saturday night provided the 15,000-capacity with a sellout crowd for a bill topped by Moby and Skunk Anansie.
Festival organiser Ivan Vulkov told Pollstar that running the event for four years has made his team confident of creating a special fifth anniversary edition in 2012.
In its short history it’s already been nominated for European festival awards and in 2009 the UK’s The Times listed it among its Top 20 European Music Festivals.
The other acts keeping the Spirit Of Burgas burning included Deftones, Stamina MC, and Amplifier.
