Koopmans Picks Up Another Fest

Hamburg-based promoter Folkert Koopmans has further expanded his portfolio of German festivals by acquiring Deichbrand, a 20,000-capacity event on the northern coast at Nordholz.

He’s co-produced the 7-year-old festival for the last two years and in that time he’s seen crowds rise from 12,000 per day to 20,000 per day.

Next year the capacity will be upped to 25,000 as Koopmans believes he can draw that many to the site that the local council had once earmarked for light industry.

There weren’t enough takers for an industrial development, but by the time the project fell through the local authority had already put in the site infrastructure including street layout, drainage, and the supply of power and water.

Either promoting the event itself or using a variety of partners throughout Germany, Koopmans’ FKP Scorpio now has a list of events that includes the twinned Hurricane and Southside Festivals, Highfield, M’Era Luna, Chiemsee Reggae and Chiemsee Rocks, Area 4, Kultursommer, Rolling Stone Weekender and Elbjazz.

This year’s Deichbrand Festival July 22 to 24 had Die Fantastischen Vier, Bullet For My Valentine, Skunk Anansie, Guano Apes, In Extremo, Kettcar, and Die Happy.
