Prince Creates NSJ Record

Having Prince play three successive nights at the Maas Hall helped North Sea Jazz Festival in The Netherlands smash its attendance record by pulling 79,000 across three days.

It usually comes close to its 70,000 capacity but Prince was announced after the tickets went on sale.

The programme was nudged a little to accommodate Prince rounding off each night in the 9,000-capacity room, part of the Rotterdam Ahoy complex, and 3,000 tickets for each show went to fans who didn’t have NSJ tickets.

Others on the NSJ lineup July 8-10 included Sergio Mendes, Amadou & Mariam, Chaka Khan, Paul Simon, Natalie Cole, B.B. King and Tom Jones.
