Top Tory Dies At Glastonbury

A senior Conservative party member and friend of UK Prime Minister David Cameron was found dead in a backstage portable toilet at Glastonbury Festival.

Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that Christopher Shale, chairman of the Conservative Association in West Oxfordshire, where Cameron is an MP, was discovered by officers shortly after 9 a.m. June 26.

Shale, 55, helps run Cameron’s Witney constituency office.

The prime minister said he and wife Samantha were “devastated” by the news.

Early reports suggested the wealthy businessman’s death could be a suicide, while police said that a post-mortem examination is to take place. Other sources said it was believed he suffered a heart attack.

Shale had been quoted in a Conservative strategy document leaked to the Mail On Sunday, in which he reportedly said there was no reason for people to join the Tory party and “lots of reasons” not to join.

On the first day of the festival, Glastonbury security guards managed to stifle a protest against U2’s tax arrangements before footage showed up on UK television.
