Producer Gets 10 Years For Rape

South African music producer Jonas “Maseven” Maleka has been sentenced to 10 years in jail on charges of raping an aspiring 16-year-old singer who went to record her debut album in his home studio.

On Nov. 16 the Groblersdal magistrate’s court heard that last year, the girl, now 17, desperately wanted to record a gospel album and was told by friends that Maleka could make her dream a reality as he had already produced many other artists.

Maleka was arrested along with his associate Piet Sebothoma, who was also at the studio when the rape occurred in April.

The Groblersdal court has referred the case against Sebothoma, who has pleaded not guilty, to another court. He is said to have only taken part in the rape after Maleka said he’d shoot him if he didn’t.
