HotStar: Serena Ryder

Serena Ryder has been honing her performance across Canada since she was 9 years old, and she’s ready to take on America with her unique voice and fusion of folk, blues and pop.

Her Canadian breakthrough, If Your Memory Serves You Well, was certified Gold and contributed to her winning the 2008 Juno Award for best new artist. She won again in 2009 for adult alternative album of the year and in 2010 for video of the year.

“What makes Serena special is her live show,” manager Sandy Pandya told Pollstar. “She has one of the most unique and astonishing voices I’ve heard in 20 years. It’s the voice of an old soul in a young girl. It’s powerful.

“The relationship between Serena and her audience is a stunning thing to see. It’s a pretty potent combination. Plus, she plays guitar like a dude. Yet she’s so charming on stage. In her live show, it all comes together.

“We’ve had a very organic build on her. To build this live audience we’ve just let her do what she does best, which is perform.”

“Serena made the decision not to solely rely on her stunning voice. Her music, her live performance and her engaging energy have made her a stand-out artist. It’s hard not to sound cliché when describing her.” – Julien Paquin, Paquin Entertainment

“In this business, you either get over yourself or trip over yourself. I’d rather get into myself the right way and all the people around me are really doing a great job at helping me.” – Serena Ryder
