Million Kroner Refund

Recycling bottles and cans collected from the capacity crowd at last year’s Roskilde has raised 1 million kroner ($193,731) for the festival’s charities.

The Roskilde statement helpfully points out that it’s the equivalent to every one of the 70,000 festivalgoers donating 15 beer cans.
Nearly 1,100 volunteer collectors from Danish relief organisation DanChurchAid picked up the empty cans, operating throughout the eight festival days and spending two more vacuuming the site after the fest.

Refund boxes were erected all over the festival area so the audience could also hand in their rubbish for a good purpose.

The profit from the humanitarian refund collection goes to victims of climate change in the Bengal region, including Bangladesh, India and Nepal.

DanChurchAid collaborates with local organisations in Bengal to help the poorest people in rural areas cope with the problems caused by climate change.

The plan is to distribute rainwater collectors and build water treatment plants for people who do not have wells and pumps with clean drinking water.
