Morrissey Released From Hospital

Former Smiths singer Morrissey has been discharged from hospital after collapsing on stage at Swindon Oasis Leisure Centre Oct. 24.

Although he stayed only one night, he is still recovering and his Oct. 26 show at Bournemouth Academy was canceled.

A note on the singer’s own website, itsmorrisseysworld.com, said Morrissey is in “stable condition.”

It said he is under doctors’ instruction to rest and that updates would be posted as soon as there is anything to report.

Eyewitnesses told BBC News that he fell to the floor during a performance of his former band’s song “This Charming Man.” He was dragged offstage by worried band members and taken to the local Great Western Hospital.

“The stage went dark and he was taken off the stage and then his band then all left the stage,” Mark Taylor – one of the 1,000-strong audience – told The Guardian.

“There was a wait of about 25 minutes before one of the stage crew came on and said Morrissey had left the building, and that he was seriously ill.”

“A 50-year-old man was reported to be suffering from respiratory problems and was unconscious,” said a spokesman for Great Western Ambulance Service.

“We sent a paramedic in a doubled-crewed ambulance. When they arrived they found a conscious patient who was not feeling well at all.”

A Great Western Hospital spokeswoman said Morrissey was kept in overnight as a precautionary measure but was “much improved” and had been discharged.

In May Morrissey canceled a string of concerts – including two at London’s Brixton Academy – because he was said to be under doctors’ strict orders not to sing.

At the end of February, the four opening dates of his U.S. tour – all in Florida – were also canceled, reportedly due to illness.

Ticket holders for Bournemouth and the abandoned Swindon Oasis concert are being advised to hold on to their tickets and await news regarding potential new dates or a refund.
