Layoffs At L.A. Times

With ad revenue declining, the Los Angeles Times has announced it is laying off 300 employees, including 70 from the newsroom.

“We’re trying to get ahead of what we see as a very tough year ahead of us,” publisher Eddy Hartenstein said. The Times will publish four daily sections per week, starting March 2.

The news section will cover local to international reports and the consolidation is expected to allow the Calendar section to be “more news-driven,” according to Hartenstein.

This would allow later deadlines and publication of overnight reviews of concerts and other events, the Times said.
