Broomfield Courted

Now that the Broomfield Event Center’s facility operator in Colorado has opted to stop managing the building, several other firms have reportedly expressed interest.

Broomfield Sport & Entertainment wanted out of its management contract because of the economic downturn and the company’s owner wanted to focus on real estate development.

The company has not paid several large bills, forcing the city of Broomfield to pay insurance of $43,227 and utility tabs, according to Broomfield Enterprise.

A consultant hired by the city, David Ehrlich, told city leaders Jan. 20 several large firms are interested in taking over management of the facility, now in its second year of operation. He would not name the companies but said they each had years of experience and managed “dozens to hundreds” of similar venues, according to the paper.

That would suggest the likes of SMG, Global Spectrum and possibly AEG.

The deadline is June 1.

Broomfield Sports & Entertainment owns two sports teams that play in the building – the Rocky Mountain Rage of the Central Hockey League and the Colorado 14ers of the NBA Development League. The 14ers haven’t drawn well in their three seasons and a new manager may not want to support the team, Ehrlich noted.
