Gerald Schoenfeld Dies

Gerald Schoenfeld, the head of Broadway’s largest landlord, the Shubert Organization, died early Nov. 25 at his home in New York.

The cause of death was not immediately known.

Schoenfeld, 84, was the chairman of the powerful organization since 1972 and helped bring many musicals to Broadway, including “A Chorus Line,” “Cats” and “Amadeus.”

The Shubert Organization owns or operates 17 Broadway theatres and one Off-Broadway playhouse, the Little Shubert.

It also owns the Shubert Theatre in Boston and the Forrest Theatre in Philadelphia, as well as manages the National Theatre in Washington, D.C.
