No Happy Mondays

Brit-rockers Happy Mondays were forced to cancel two shows at the In The City of New York music conference this month following visa trouble stemming from the band’s appearance at California’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April.

The reformed act, which recently completed its first album in 15 years, was scheduled to perform at the Nokia Theatre in Times Square June 13-14. The shows represented the Manchester-based band’s first NYC gigs in more than 10 years.

"Due to the unforeseen circumstance of that troubled word we are growing familiar with, ‘VISA,’ the Happy Mondays will not be coming to NYC as originally planned," conference organizers said in a statement. "The Happy Mondays are ‘gutted’ at not being able to support [U.K. impresario] Tony Wilson this week. However, they are sorting out their visa issues once and for all so the whole band can return to the States sometime soon."

Dancer/percussionist Bez missed Happy Mondays’ performance at Coachella because of the visa issues. Other band members were reportedly issued single-entry-only visas for that trip and now have to reapply to enter the U.S., the statement said.

Happy Mondays’ latest album, Unkle Dysfunktional, is scheduled to drop July 2nd.appy Happy Happy M
