No More Summer Music

Connecticut’s longtime Summer Music series has come to an end.

The classical and pops music series has been a summer staple for more than 20 years, but organizers have filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy and canceled the remainder of this year’s events, citing a drop in contributions and debt from past years.

The events have been staged since 1984 at Waterford’s Harkness Memorial State Park, but moved indoors this season to Connecticut College’s Palmer Auditorium after the state opened up the summer use of the state park to competitive bidding.

The music series reportedly has assets of $24,500 and debts of more than $60,000.
