International: Eagles Bring Out Deacon Frey; Boss In Belgium; Festival Republic’s ‘Taste Of America’

The Eagles headlined BST Hyde Park on Sunday, June 26, treating the audience to many hits from their 51-year career, and bringing out Deacon Frey, the son of the late Eagles founding member Glenn Frey.

Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit were joined on stage by Vince Gill who completed the line-up for the evening. Together, they took to the Great Oak Stage under a sunny Sunday evening sky to kick off their two-hour long set, brining the first of three live music weekends to a close.

A crowd of 55,000 got treaded to many hits from the iconic band’s immense catalogue, includig “Take It To The Limit,” “Heartache Tonight,” and “Life In The Fast Lane.”

At one point during the concert, Henley said, “We are glad to see your smiling faces. We are glad to be back. We’re glad you’re back. Our mission this evening is to give you a two-hour vacation from all the headlines and the chaos that’s happening in the world… So sit back, relax and enjoy the music.”

Later in a poignant moment, with a picture of Eagles founding member Glenn Frey on the screen, Henley introduced Glenn’s son, Deacon Frey, who joined the band to perform vocals and guitar on “Peaceful Easy Feeling” and “Take It Easy.”

A “tremendous show,” according to promoter AEG Presents, came to an end with renditions of “Hotel California,” “Desperado,” and “Already Gone,” for which U.S. tennis legend, and Eagles superfan, John McEnroe made a surprise appearance.

Elton John and The Rolling Stones headlined the Friday and Saturday of the first of three BST Hyde Park weekends. Two nights of Adele (July 1-2), and another night of The Rolling Stones make up next weekend’s bill, followed by Pearl Jam (July 8-9), and Duran Duran (July 10) the week after. And those are just the top of the bill on each day, the list of special guests includes Stereophonics, Johnny Marr, Imelda May, Temples, Nile Rodgers & CHIC, Aurora, Laura Mvula, and more.

On Sunday, when Eagles headlined, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss were second on the bill. Pennsylvania-born soul-pop singer, Patrick Droney, opened the Great Oak Stage for the day.

Bruce Springsteen At TW Classic 2023

TW Classic just went down in Werchter Belgium, June 25, with a massive lineup including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Metallica, The Killers, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Twenty One Pilots, Imagine Dragons, and more.

Already, Live Nation Belgium announced one of the biggest gigs of 2023, confirming Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band for next year’s TW Classic, Sunday, June 18, 2023.

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will mark their return to the road in early February, 2023 with a string of to-be-announced U.S. arena dates, followed by European stadium shows kicking off April 28h in Barcelona, and a second North American tour leg starting in August.

A comment from the Boss himself reads, “After six years, I’m looking forward to seeing our great and loyal fans next year. And I’m looking forward to once again sharing the stage with the legendary E Street Band. See you out there, next year — and beyond.”

These dates will mark the first live shows for Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band since the conclusion of their 14-month, worldwide The River Tour in Australia in February, 2017. The River Tour, Pollstar’s top worldwide tour of 2016.

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band performed live on Saturday Night Live in December 2020, where they launched live versions of two songs from their most recent studio album Letter To You (Columbia Records), which reached number one in eleven countries and marked the band’s first time recording live together in decades.

The E Street Band’s members are Roy Bittan (piano, synthesizer), Nils Lofgren (guitar, vocals), Patti Scialfa (guitar, vocals), Garry Tallent (bass guitar), Stevie Van Zandt (guitar, vocals), and Max Weinberg (drums), with Soozie Tyrell (violin, guitar, vocals), Jake Clemons (saxophone), and Charlie Giordano (keyboards).

​TW Classic is a festival based on what it describes as “a tried-and-tested recipe,” a “flashback to the format that was common in Werchter until 1994: a beautiful summer’s day, a festival site with one stage, a wonderful, exuberant audience, and a select group of artists with an impressive pedigree.”

TW Classic has welcomed The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band, The Police, Bryan Adams, Lenny Kravitz, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Bon Jovi, Sting, Phil Collins, Elton John, Texas, Editors, Depeche Mode, Black Eyed Peas, Robbie Williams, Kraftwerk, and Guns N’ Roses at previous editions.

Tickets for TW Classic 2023 go on sale Wednesday, June 29, at 9 a.m. CEST.

Festival Republic’s ‘Taste Of America’

Festival Republic is bringing Major League Baseball with a festival vibe to Crystal Palace Park, about 9 miles south of London, England, July 9.

Dubbed FTX MLB Home Run Derby X, promoters promise “high sporting drama, delicious ballpark food, iconic baseball fashion, interactive games, and a live music performance from AJ Tracey.

Teams, going through prelims in the afternoon, with third-place play-off and final taking place in the evening, will be made up of “MLB Legends, Superstars, Rookies and new-to-the-game Wild Cards,” representing four iconic Major League Baseball Clubs: Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees.

Food trucks serving up “serious stateside eats” will provide “a taste of America.” Tickets, starting at £30 ($37), are on sale.
