2023 Women Of Live: Rachel Helix
Manager and Producer | Levity Live
Rachel Helix credits growing up as one of six kids in a low-income family in Michigan for her drive and love of comedy.
“It made me who I am. From humble beginnings and having all the siblings, learning interpersonal connections and just making things happen for myself so that I could go on to make things happen for my clients,” Helix says. “We were poor and there were dark times here and there and we got through it by laughing and making fun of each other. … Comedy just became my language with my friends and family.”
Following an unpaid internship at a management company when she first moved to Los Angeles post-film school, Helix landed a job at a different company supporting a manager who represented actors – but she knew her heart was in working with comics and the live space.
Fortunately, a job opened at the comedy-focused Levity Live and Helix became the assistant to Co-Founder/President Judi Marmel (2021 WoL cover honoree), who she calls her biggest mentor. Helix got to help with Sebastian Maniscalco’s move from clubs to theatres and was promoted after two years to become co-manager to Maniscalco and Loni Love. She then used that chapter in her career to build artists like Mark Normand, Brian Simpson, JR De Guzman and Drew Lynch.
One of Helix’s greatest strengths is identifying talent with large built-in audiences that will translate to serious numbers on the road. Helix explains that she’s found success in building creators in the live space, and her understanding of the social media landscape guides her when it comes to marketing tours for traditional standups.
“For example, I co-manage Chelcie Lynn, who is an internet sensation and beloved personality. In one year’s time, she sold 85,000 tickets over 70-plus markets and she is about to embark on yet another massive tour, this time primarily consisting of theaters.”
Look for Mark Normand’s Netflix special to be released later this year. And, after selling 100,000 tickets across more than 60 markets in 2022, he will expand his theatre plays across even more.
Helix’s roster also includes Che Durena, Joe Dombrowski, Pinky Patel and Brandon Rogers.
