Lizzo celebrated Juneteenth by announcing her fourth annual giveback campaign with digital marketing platform Propeller that will support grassroots, Black-owned organizations and give fans the chance to win VIP tickets to see her perform at Fuji Rock Festival in Tokyo, Japan.

The superstar’s 2022 campaign with Propeller raised nearly $125,000 on behalf of Black-led grassroots organizations and Planned Parenthood with fans taking over 100,000 actions.

To enter to win a trip to see Lizzo play Fuji Rock fans can join Community Change (which is working to “advance racial justice, housing, child care, and economic justice for poor and working class people across the U.S.”) or donate to one of the five non-profit organizations Lizzo has selected that are close to her heart: Black Girls Smile, Sphinx Music, Marsha P Johnson Institute, University of Houston, and Save Our Sisters United.

Monday’s announcement noted that Lizzo was recently honored with The Elevate Prize Foundation’s Elevate Prize Catalyst Award “in recognition of her commitment to social justice, driving positive change, and using her platform to amplify the work of other activists.” She is donating the $250,000 she was awarded to the five nonprofits above.

“As a proud Houstonian, it has been an honor to be able to celebrate Juneteenth in a real way by giving back to Black businesses and organizations,” Lizzo said in a statement. “For the past three years, thanks to your donations and participation, we’ve been able to bless so many people with much needed resources. On this fourth year, we are doing it bigger and better than ever before!

“This year we are once again raising money with Propeller, where you can win an all-expenses paid trip to see me perform at the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan. However, I am also the proud recipient of the Elevate Prize Catalyst Award and that means I have $250,000 to give to any cause I choose, and I’m choosing the Juneteenth Giveback. Every day this week I’m giving $50,000 away to a grassroots black non-profit or organization, some of which highlight our trans family because we aren’t free until we’re all free.”

The Fuji Rock all-expenses trip includes roundtrip travel to Tokyo, two weekend VIP passes, five-night hotel accommodations, ground transportation and more.

“Lizzo is a shining example of a superstar who authentically uses her platform for good,” Propeller Founder/CEO Brandon Deroche said in a statement. “Propeller is honored to partner with her again on her Fourth Annual Juneteenth Giveback. The fact that she is not only doing such an exciting campaign with us, but also donating the entirety of her Elevate Prize Catalyst Award to the non-profit organizations involved, is a true testament to her dedication to activism.”

Propeller pairs artists, festivals, events and cultural festivals with nonprofits with campaigns that encourage folks to get involved with activism by rewarding cause-related actions with free concert tickets, exclusive experiences and more. The platform has worked with artists including Justin Bieber, Tenacious D., Aly and AJ, The National, boygenius, The Black Keys, Sofi Tucker and Demi Lovato, along with festivals such as Bonnaroo and Outside Lands. Last year the platform also announced a partnership with Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Since being founded in 2015, Propeller has helped raise $6 million dollars with 1.5 million registered users.

Lizzo ranked No. 46 on Pollstar’s 2022 Top Tours North American Year End chart with a gross of $35.4 million with a total of 313,412 reported tickets sold on “The Special Tour.”

She is currently touring Europe with her next scheduled appearance taking place this week at England’s Glastonbury. Recent box office reports submitted to Pollstar include a May 28 show at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento that grossed $1.5 million and sold 12,078 tickets.
