Impact International UK/Euro: Summer Marshall
Summer Marshall
Music Touring Agent
CAA
Summer Marshall, Music Touring Agent at CAA, says she feels more “calm” this year. “Whilst the festival season was indeed full of long weeks and even longer weekends, there were less travel issues than we saw in the summer of 2022 and fewer artist cancellations than in 2021. So, generally speaking, a lot more to celebrate overall. I’m looking forward to Q4!”
Her strategy for dealing with the economic pressures of touring post-pandemic Europe: “Attention to detail on show costs is more important than ever. That’s where my love of math comes out.” Marshall’s clients — Maisie Peters, Ava Max, Jorja Smith, Nick Mulvey, Amaarae, Gabriels and Olivia Dean — all released critically acclaimed albums this year and played sold-out international tours. She says Sam Smith’s show “Gloria has received five-star reviews everywhere. They produce extraordinary and uplifting art. I encourage everyone to see Sam perform.”
Developing Sam Smith’s successful international touring career ranks high among what Marshall considers her biggest accomplishments. “I still remember fondly the shows in tiny clubs, and Sam’s voice is stronger now than ever. I feel so fortunate to have worked with many fantastic artists to help them achieve their career dreams. One of the most rewarding elements of this role is setting out a vision and then achieving it.”
Marshall says she’s “extremely grateful to work every day in a job I love. I’m passionate about giving back and am part of several mentorship programs. We’ve got
through this and it’s now more important than ever to support the next generation of live music executives.”
She encourages them to “always ask questions — no matter what stage of life or career you might be in. An inquisitive mind is a happy mind. Take one day at a time, and when about to make an important decision: tea, lots and lots of cups of tea.”
