When Skrillex and Fred again.. announced they’d be headlining in San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza for a pop-up show on Saturday, June 1, fans were in a frenzy. The duo, who teamed up with Four Tet last spring for takeovers in New York City (including pop-ups in Brooklyn, Times Square and Madison Square Garden) and a last-minute close out of Coachella’s mainstage on weekend two in 2023, haven’t performed together in quite some time.

But last week, Skrillex teased on his socials that he was sitting on a bunch of new music with Fred again.., writing “Fred and I have way too much music we need to test out so we’re going to throw a rave in San Francisco next week BRB.”

On Tuesday, May 28, tickets went on sale. They sold out in minutes.

“We’ve been wanting to work with [Fred again..] for a while,” Eric Barleen, VP of Concerts at Another Planet Entertainment, tells Pollstar. “It came out that he loves these pop-up ideas, and how it’s something different from the show. This came up as an opportunity, ‘Hey, we’re going to do a couple hard ticket things. We want to do something different.’ And we pitched a handful of ideas. There’s not a ton of non-traditional venue space in the Bay Area, and working with the city, it’s really hard do permit things from a noise side. And, the city itself had approached us as a whole about doing more events downtown, whether it be the Embarcadero or the Civic Center, just to reactive and reengage some nightlife. We pitched it to Fred, and he immediately fell in love with the idea.”

Following Saturday’s takeover, Fred again.. will perform three nights at Stanford’s Frost Amphitheatre from June 4-6.

The Madison Square Garden show, which took place on Feb. 18, 2023, sold out with 15,412 tickets grossing $748,767, according to reports submitted to Pollstar’s Boxoffice. Skrillex last returned to San Francisco for a show at The Midway on Oct. 1. The DJ and music producer is booked by Wasserman Music’s Lee Anderson.

Fred again.. is booked by Wasserman Music’s Ben Shprits and Evan Hancock. In March and early April, with highlights including a $4.9 million gross for three shows at Quodos Bank Arena in Sydney.

Doors open at 5 p.m., with the show running until the city’s 10 p.m. curfew.
