Hanky Panky
Ol’ Bocephus is tuning up for another round of shows in support of his latest album, The Almeria Club. Hank Williams Jr. will play everything from stampedes to state fairs, amphitheatres, dance halls, theme parks and a casino on the tour, which launches June 27 and runs through September 27. More dates are expected.
Various artists have been enlisted as support for a few dates here and there. Included are George Thorogood, Martina McBride, Montgomery Gentry and Uncle Kracker.
According to Williams folklore, the Almeria Club was an Alabama nightspot where, in 1947, Hank Williams’ (Sr.) performance was interrupted by a gun-wielding man who planned to shoot his wife and another man in the audience. Williams “dropped his guitar, grabbed his adored Miss Audry, Jr.’s mother, around the waist and literally headed for the hills.”
So, in tribute to his ma and pa, Williams Jr. named his 2002 album after the club.
