Promoters Peeved With Moncton Hotels

Promoters apparently have a beef with hotels in Moncton, New Brunswick, that they say are driving away business by jacking up prices and demanding guests stay two nights when a big show comes to town.

Moncton’s Magnetic Hill festival grounds was once considered a hub for concerts in the region, drawing everyone from The Rolling Stones to Bruce Springsteen. But recent years haven’t been quite as fruitful for the Moncton music scene.

City councilman Charles Léger told CBC News that officials will examine a revised plan for the site by the end of the year.

“Over the past couple of years, there have not been – at least what promoters have indicated to staff and what we’ve been told in council – is that there haven’t been many large acts,” Léger said, adding that hotels should be coordinating with event planners.

“They should be at the table, moving things forward with promoters,” he said. Meanwhile, Prince Edward Island’s Cavendish Beach Music Festival recently announced Keith Urban as a headliner for its July 10-12 festival.
