LN Promotes Coppel, Field Down Under
Live Nation has promoted Michael Coppel, president and CEO of its Australia and New Zealand operations to chairman. COO Roger Field becomes chief executive officer.
Alan Ridgeway, president LN’s International & Emerging Markets division, said, “Michael and Roger have done an amazing job of transforming our business in Australia and New Zealand over the last five years.
“I am delighted that they are going to be continuing to work together in their new roles and am sure they will take the company to new heights.”
Coppel joined LN Australasia in 2012, when the company bought Michael Coppel Presents (MCP) and merged it with its existing business in the two countries. MCP was a substantial business, with Dire Straits, Pink, U2, Metallica and Taylor Swift among Australia and New Zealand’s biggest ever tours.
As president and chief executive, he spearheaded LN’s expansion in the region. These included the acquisitions of the mixitup sponsorship agency to source its brand partners, and 12,000-capacity
Most recently, it acquired of Jessica Ducrou and Paul Piticco’s Secret Sounds, at tour company which also operated the major Splendour In The Grass and the four-city Falls Festival. LN also entered into a partnership with Jaddan Comerford’s multi-service company Unified to create the sell-out Unify Present hard rock festival.
Adele’s February/March debut run through Australia and New Zealand broke attendance records in all cities, with an estimated tally of 600,000 – or 20 percent of the country’s 15-24 population.
In December, Coppel was ranked No. 5 in Themusic.com.au’s annual Power 50 list.
“In his role as chairman, Coppel will continue to service his long-term industry relationships, mentor the company’s growing promoter team in Australia and New Zealand and continue to look for opportunities to grow Live Nation’s business in the region,” LN said in a statement.
Coppel added, “We have built a great team over the last five years, and I am excited to be able to continue to work with them to deliver unforgettable live experiences to music fans across Australia and New Zealand.”
In his new role, Roger Field “will be responsible for the day to day management of Live Nation’s concert business in Australia and New Zealand. Roger will also maintain an on-going contribution to the growth and development of Live Nation’s business in the region.”
