Hang Out At the ABC Music Lounge
You might not be able to hang out on the stairs at Seattle Grace Hospital with Meredith and Dr. McDreamy, but you can spend some time on ABC’s new Web site, surrounding yourself with the music that acts as a backdrop to memorable moments on your favorite shows.
“This is way to bring all the music of ABC into one place, to allow people to find and enjoy it,” said Michael Benson, ABC executive vice president for marketing.
At the heart of the ABC Music Lounge is a streaming “radio station” that includes 200-plus singers and bands that have been featured on ABC shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Desperate Housewives.”
There’s also Web pages for featured artists, music videos, exclusive performance footage, interviews with artists and show producers and a link for online song purchases.
Featured artists include Adele, Lenka, Anya Marina, Joshua Radin, Rilo Kiley, Death Cab For Cutie, Corinne Bailey Rae, Lily Allen, Mat Kearney and The Bird And The Bee.
Peter DiCecco, ABC senior vice president of business and legal affairs for music, noted that with CD sales declining, TV is the new venue for fans to discover music.
Artists have certainly benefited from having their songs featured on hit TV shows. For example, after “Grey’s Anatomy” included The Fray’s “How To Save A Life,” sales of the song went up nearly 300 percent.
The ABC Music Lounge debuted today to coincide with the 100th episode of “Grey’s Anatomy.”
