Good Friends
Tour dates start October 13 and are confirmed through mid-January. The singer/keyboardist gets going in upstate New York and travel across the country – including 10 shows in California -before wrapping January 14, 2007 in St. Louis.
Allman’s “friends” for this trek will be Mike C. Barnes (guitar), Jay Collins (sax), Jerry Jemmott (bass), Neil Larson (keyboard), Floyd Miles (percussion) and Steve Potts (drums).
Honeytribe – the band featuring Gregg’s son Devon Allman – will open several shows, with Danielia Cotton on hand for the rest.
On September 16, Gregg Allman was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame’s performer category. The ceremony took place in Atlanta, where Allman performed his classic “Melissa.”
He was also joined by R.E.M. members Mike Mills, Peter Buck and Bill Berry on “Midnight Rider.”
“I’m proud to call myself a Georgian,” he said. “And to earn a spot again in the Hall along with those other guys like Otis Redding, James Brown, Ray Charles and Blind Willie McTell – that’s cool.” The Allman Brothers Band was inducted as a band to the Atlanta-based hall in 1998.
The Allman Brothers Band kicked off their 2006 tour with 13 sold-out shows at New York’s Beacon Theatre, where they have been doing multiple-night gigs each March since 1989.
In April, The band headlined its own two-day Wanee Festival in Live Oak, Fla., and then toured the U.S.
