Explosive Tweet Leads To Arrest

An enthusiastic tweet from a 16-year-old Pink fan before the start of her July 7 show at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne got him arrested.

Making a pun on her song “Timebomb,” the fan he tweeted, “Pink I’m ready with my Bomb. Time to blow up Rod Laver Arena. Bitch.”

Alarmed venue staff alerted security who tracked him through his Twitter profile photo in the crowd of 12,500. Police were called and the boy was charged with being a public nuisance.

The show was the first of 18 Pink shows at the venue. Melbourne is Pink’s biggest market in the world, with sales of 200,000 tickets in a city of 4.25 million.

Kicking off strongly with “Raise Your Glass,” she underwent an exhilarating two-hour set of acrobatics, rope work, a first-time nod to her early Motown-inspired moments, a strong catalogue of pop hits, new tunes and a sense of spectacle that lifted the bar for pop concerts.

Pink’s huge affinity with a wide Australian demographic is directly linked to her anti-star stance: she moaned that daughter Willow was getting more gifts than she was, swore cheerfully when she fluffed a showcase of her new-found prowess on the piano, and physically kept interacting with the crowd throughout.
