50 Years Of The Chieftains
Voice Of Ages features The Chieftains pushing the envelope by working with artists not usually associated with traditional Irish folk music. There’s collaborations with country/American performers such as The Civil Wars, Pistol Annies, Carolina Chocolate Drops and Punch Brothers as well as indie artists like Bon Iver, The Decemberists and Low Anthem. Irish and Scottish folk tunes are included as well with the Chieftains playing with Imelda May, Lisa Hannigan and Paolo Nutini.
Produced by T Bone Burnett and The Chieftains’ own Paddy Moloney, Voice Of Ages lands in stores Feb. 21 on Hear/Concord.
There are plenty of dates to celebrate the new disc’s arrival. The Chieftains’ 2012 U.S. tour launches on the West Coast in Santa Barbara at the University of California’s Campbell Hall Feb. 17. Other destinations on the journey include Tucson, Ariz., at the University Of Arizona’s Centennial Hall Feb. 19; Birmingham, Ala., at Alys Stevens Center For The Performing Arts Feb. 25; Chicago at Orchestra Hall March 4; Philadelphia at the Kimmel Center’s Verizon Hall March 9; Boston at Symphony Hall March 14 and New York City at Carnegie Hall March 17.
