Primavera Sound To Become Even Greener
After receiving “highly recommended” certification by UK environmental charity A Greener Festival in 2019, Primavera Sound wants to make sure its main event in Barcelona, Spain, June 1-12, continues to build on this achievement.

The 2022 edition of Primavera Sound will pioneer a stage powered by renewable energy provided by batteries, a public transport agreement means there’ll be a tram line running non-stop during the festival site Parc del Forum and the city of Barcelona, bicycle parking at the venue will be extended, while the carbon footprint will continue to be offset through various measures.
Building on the introduction of reusable cups in 2019, which saved more than three tons of cups in Primavera Sound’s own estimation, the 2022 edition will take new steps to eventually completely remove plastic from the festival site. All single-use plastic containers will be eliminated (including PET water bottles) and the use of compostable tableware will be imposed in the restaurant areas. The food on site will include “a wide range of vegan and proximity cuisine that will reduce the environmental impact,” according to a press release from Primavera Sound.

Other steps include the use of reusable materials in infrastructures, the installation of 70% of high efficiency toilets, an on-site fleet of electric vehicles for staff and artists, the installation of photovoltaic panels that will supply energy to some areas such as the official merchandising shop.
Primavera Sound 2022 will also be the first edition to have a stage powered by sustainable and renewable energy. The project, which will replace generators with batteries, aims to add more stages every year.
A renewed alliance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Campaign will also reach the three Latin American editions of Primavera Sound.
